About Pembroke Pines
According to the United States Census Bureau 2010 report, Pembroke Pines has a population for 154,750 making it the 2nd most populous city in Broward County, Florida. The city was incorporated in 1960 and the area may have been named after the many pine trees or from an early landowner from Britain known as the Earl of Pembroke. At that time, the city was less than a square mile but now it is 34.4 square miles and is deemed one of the largest cities in Broward County. The expansion is mainly attributed to a rapid migration of Florida residents after Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and in 1999, the city was proclaimed one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
The city’s motto is “Join Us – Progress with Us” and has been proclaimed one of the best cities to live in America. In 2004, the city won the National Civic League’s “All-America City Award.” In 2005, Pembroke Pines also won an outstanding achievement award through a City Livability Awards Program sponsored by the United States Conference of Mayors. To top it off, the city has been ranked #1 in Florida as the best place to raise your children, and their schools have received the “Five Star School Award” from the Florida Department of Education.
